Quakers Running Club is a running and athletics club based in Darlington, County Durham, UK.
The club is noted as being one of the friendliest sports clubs in the area and is more than happy to welcome all abilities to the sport, after all, we all had to start somewhere, and you don't have to be an Olympic athlete to get enjoyment out of running and athletics. So whether you just want to start running for the sake of fitness, or you're just about to do your 25th Great North Run, we can help you get through it.
Our runners participate in a variety of events which include road running, cross-country, trail and fell running and track-and-field.
However, perhaps the most important benefit of being a club member is the advantage of being able to train and compete with people who enjoy the same activity as you.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
The club's training base is at Carmel RC College, The Headlands, Darlington, DL3 8RW and training sessions take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm till 8:00. with members tending to meet from 6:15pm onwards.
What training do you do?
The clubs training sessions are deliberately set so that runners of all ages and abilities can use them. They basically comprise of a mass warm-up session, this is taken at the pace of whoever feels like running the slowest that particular night! The main part of the session revolves around quality work and normally will consist of some form of interval or repetition session, this tends to be carried out in a relatively confined area so that club members are all training together irrespective of their ability. Fitter club members will tend to do more intervals or reps at a faster pace than those members who are not quite so fit and we've found from experience that this style of session allows club members to assist and encourage each other which helps to develop a friendly and relaxed club atmosphere.
In addition to these structured sessions, 'steady runs' through the local countryside or the town often take place on club nights, weekend 'steadies' also take place from various locations within the area.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Sessions are open to all and non-members are particularly encouraged to come along on training evenings to see what the club has to offer. No charge is made for attending these sessions. The hope is that you will enjoy your running with us, will keep coming back and eventually will join the club.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
If your aims are made known to a member from our team of UK Athletics qualified coaching staff, they will be only too happy to introduce you to club members who are also in training for the Virgin London Marathon.
