The club was founded during the jogging boom in the early 80’s and provides a very sociable ‘running club for all’. The club provides training and competition for men and women of all age groups and of all abilities, including a thriving junior section. Although the club started out doing mainly road running and cross country, we also now have members who participate in track and field as well as triathlon.
The club has about 250 members, fairly equally split between men and women plus about 100 juniors. There is a full range of abilities and we pride ourselves in being a friendly, welcoming club for people of all abilities. It’s the running and the enjoyment it gives that matters, not the pace.
The club also competes in the Chingford League, Sunday Cross Country League, Mid Week Road League and the Southern Counties Veterans AC for track and field.
Our web site has lots of information about the club’s activities. www.trentparkrc.org
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
We are located at the Southgate Hockey Centre in Trent Park, Snakes Lane, Oakwood EN4 0PS. Snakes Lane is off Bramley Road, Enfield.
From Cockfosters Station (pedestrians only) turn right towards Hadley Wood and Potters Bar, pass the Jet petrol station on your right, the entrance to the park is about 400 meters on the right.
Follow the road for another 200 meters and fork right along the tree lined road for another 800 meters. At the junction after the monument turn sharp right, the Hockey Centre is 100 meters on the right. This entrance is unlit and not recommended at night
From Oakwood Station (recommended entrance) the entrance to Snakes Lane is opposite Oakwood station. Southgate Hockey Centre is at the end of Snakes Lane (approx. 800m) on the left.
What training do you do?
We have 3 main club training sessions a week but, you do not have to commit to all of them. We change training sessions depending on the time of year/season. Thursday tends to be a steady road run in ability groups for about one hour. On Tuesdays and Saturdays sessions vary to include hill work, fartlek, intervals etc.all done in ability groups with an experienced leader.
Tuesdays and Thursdays we meet at 7.15pm
Saturdays we meet at 9.30am (this is the best day to come for the first time)
Sundays (not an official club day) but many meet up and go for a long run
.
Although we are happy to help and advise absolute beginners, it is helpful if people can run for about 20 to 30 minutes (pace doesn’t matter), to get the most out of the club.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Please feel free to come and run with us on a few occasions to see if we are the type of club you are looking for. We welcome runners of all ages, abilities and there is no pressure to join. However- you may only enter our monthly handicap if you are a member and you will benefit in many ways by becoming a member and it is much cheaper than joining a gym! See our website for more information.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
We always have a number of runners in the London Marathon whose pace varies from under 3 hours to over 5 hours. Our members are a friendly bunch and we will introduce you to people of similar ability and training for the Virgin London Marathon. Many members decide to meet up and train with each other outside club nights. In particular, there are regular long runs every Sunday morning.
