The Striders train three times a week from their clubhouse in Sandilands, Addiscombe, Croydon: on Sundays at 8.30am and Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm. During the run up to the marathon the club also offers a longer Sunday run beginning at 7.30am.
In order to encourage runners of all abilities, the club has had a policy of frequently 'turning back' on our training runs to pick up those running at the back of the pack. On Wednesdays we give you the option of running for 40 minutes or an hour, while on Sundays the choices are usually for 60 or 90 minutes.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
Sandilands, Addiscombe, Croydon
What training do you do?
We offer a range of training including road, cross-country and speed sessions. We organise cross-training in the form of swimming.
Striders are members of the Surrey League Cross-country and an Athletics league.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
We suggest that you come and meet us and if after a few runs you decide that the club is for you we’d encourage you to join.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
Every year about 20 Striders, of widely differing abilities, train for the marathon so there are at least two groups who train together for longer runs on a Sunday and often during the week.
The club publishes a list of “warm-up” races of varying distance ( up to 20 miles) and these are always well attended by Striders who share the driving.
As a club we also organise longer runs away from the clubhouse – both cross-country and along the Thames footpath and Trails.
