Stainland Lions Running Club is a friendly, well established group of runners spanning all levels of ability. Our training covers everything from general fitness to marathons. If you have never run before then this is a great place to start, or if you are a sub 3 hour marathon runner we have runners you can train with.
You don't have to be ready for the elite section to join us, it doesn't matter to us if you're a 5 minute miler, an 11 minute miler, or a complete beginner, all our members have one thing in common - we all love to run. For those who like a bit of competition the club organises two Grand Prix series of races, one for road events and one for fell races. Each Grand Prix caters for different levels of ability and includes at least one handicap race.
We also love to socialise and we have an enthusiastic social committee who devise a variety of events from handicap races, pub crawls and summer barbecues to a very enjoyable annual dinner.
The club aims not only to provide a popular running club which caters for enthusiastic runners of all abilities, but also to foster an interest in general fitness, weight management and healthier life style amongst the local community by:
- Running a successful beginners’ course each year, provided free of charge.
- Integrating runners into the club at the appropriate level following the course.
- Holding successful local races aimed at both the local community and the wider running community e.g. a 5K Fun Run on Boxing Day; a 7mile hilly road race – the Stainland 7 and a 10 mile cross country run, the Bluebell Trail.
- Providing a communication channel for prospective and current members via the club website.
The club’s affiliation is to England Athletics and members are registered for road running, cross country and fell running. In the next few years we are looking to further develop the membership of the club, so that more of the local community may enjoy the health and lifestyle benefits of running; improve coaching levels to support this; and cater for running for the visually impaired and other disabilities through the Yorkshire Disability Athletics Forum.
