The club is a road, fell and cross-country running club; it was formed in May 1985 and now has a membership around 240, both men and women of all age groups. The object of the club is to encourage running at all levels in a friendly and social atmosphere. This is reflected in the present membership, which covers the whole spectrum of abilities and experience from regular marathon runners to complete beginners just wishing to jog occasionally to improve their general fitness.
All new runners will have somebody to run with, either other beginners or experienced runners, who will run at your pace.
The club is run on a very informal basis and in a very friendly atmosphere. Most members stay for a drink and a chat afterwards.
We have a new clubhouse, where there are changing rooms & showers, a bar serving food and drink after the run.
The Virgin London Marathon is a major event in the club calendar. We have a coach to take runners to the Virgin London marathon and for our supporters who man the drink station at 13 miles.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
We meet at the Chelmsford Rugby Club, the club's headquarters in Coronation Park off Timsons Lane, Springfield, Chelmsford and Tuesday at 7.3Opm and Thursday at 8pm. Thursday night runs are typically about 5 miles, whilst Tuesday night runs typically concentrate on speed work, but both aim to cater for all standards. These evening sessions attract about 40 plus runners of all abilities. You will not end up running alone.
Some members also meet on Saturday morning at Blakes Wood, Danbury for an off road run. There is also a Sunday morning run at 9.00 a.m. from the club.
What training do you do?

Some members also meet on Saturday morning at Blakes Wood, Danbury for an off road run. There is also a Sunday morning run at 9.00 a.m. from the club. The Sunday morning is a longer training session for runners in the Virgin London Marathon.
You will find a training programme on our website based on our club nights for beginners and improvers on the web site. Our coaches are willing to provide a specific programme tailored to your particular needs.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
You are welcome to come along as our guest for three or four weeks before you will be asked to join. Membership is only £12 to the end of March.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
This year we expect to have 25 to 30 runners in the Virgin London Marathon whose pace varies from 2.40 to 5 hours plus. You will find someone who will run at your speed and members who will support you and offer encouragement in your training.
