Sospan Road Runners was founded in April 1984 and is an affiliated member of the Athletics Association Wales & UK Athletics.
Our members range in age from a youthful 16 years to over 70.
We cater for all levels of runners and power walkers both female and male. Expert advice is always available from our more experienced members, who are always happy to support their fellow runners and walkers.
We pride ourselves as being a friendly and sociable club. Our members enjoy an active social life with regular organised club events and nights out. These are great for breaking the ice and making new friends
Our members also travel far & wide to participate in some of the Worlds greatest events including the New York Marathon, Dublin Marathon and not forgetting our yearly excursion to the Virgin London Marathon. Sospans also travel to many other European and UK events.
If you want company to run or power walk, if you are bored with the monotony of exercising on a gym treadmill and want to get some fresh air, this could be the place for you.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
The club is based at Llanelli Lawn Tennis Club, Stradey Park, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, SA15 4BT. We meet regularly on a Monday and Thurdsay at the clubhouse during the winter, but on Thurdays during the summer we meet at Bryngwyn School Track. People congregate at these sites at about 6pm with a view to starting at around 6:15pm.
What training do you do?
The Monday sessions is an opportunity for everyone to be updated with any club news. This session can be a recovery session for those runners that have been out for long runs on the weekend.
Thursday is often, but not always a hill or speed session. In the summer, the when we meet at Bryngwyn School, the track is used for some speed work.
On Sundays club members frequently meet for a run longer in the morning down Pembrey Country Park.
Some members often make arrangements to meet up and go for a run, when work commitments make attendance at the usual club sessions difficult.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Just turn up, you are welcome to see if you like the experience before considering joining.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
We always have several members who attend the Virgin London Marathon, and there are many more club members who have done marathons. You will not be short of advice or company.
