The club as it is today was formed in 1986 at Westborough Sports Centre by a group of runners training for the Virgin London Marathon, although the original Maidstone Harriers club can trace its roots back to the 1930s. The present day club now has over 100 members, aged from 18 and upwards, and is primarily a road racing and cross-country club. We cater for all standards of runners, from the serious to those just looking to keep fit. We have both male and female runners of all ages and all abilities.
We organise the Maidstone Half Marathon, Ditton Turkey Fun Run (X-Country) and Weald Of Kent 10 mile road race. We organise our own club championship and have an awards/disco evening in February. We also organise other social functions. We are a very sociable type of Club where our aim is to run to have fun.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
Our main meeting is on Wednesdays at 7.15pm at The Maidstone Hockey Club in Armstrong Road, Maidstone.
For further information including a map, please look at our website, or send us an email.
What training do you do?
Wednesday is our main training run. During winter months the runs tend to be 5-6miles around the streets of Maidstone. From April to September the runs are about 6-7miles around the surrounding countryside.
On Sundays many runners meet up for a long run. Also runners tend to meet up on other occasions to train together.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Just come along on a Wednesday evening and check us out for a couple of weeks. Once you are happy with us then sign up and enjoy the benefits of being a club member.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
There will be several others training for the Virgin London Marathon and they will be pointed out to you. Their pace will be between 3hrs and over 5 hrs so you will fit in somewhere.
We organise transport to the Virgin London Marathon and we have our own marshalling stretch outside the Tower of London at 23 miles, so familiar faces will be there to shout you on.
