Heanor Running Club

Smalley
Derbyshire

Heanor Running Club is a running club that continues to grow. Membership is now nearing the 100 mark. The membership ranges from the more experienced, talented runners through to complete beginners and those who want nothing more than to run with a group of like minded individuals. All abilities are welcome, from the beginner to the more experienced, in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Club training nights are every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7pm. The members enjoy regular coach trips to races, subsidised running kit and an active social scene. A recent development over the past 4 years has seen the club travel abroad to run in a city half marathon. This has included Berlin and Prague (which is the planned destination for this year). The club competes in both the local cross-country and road race leagues, as well as travelling further a field to compete in National and Regional cross-country events and road relays. There are a number of other events organised throughout the year, not always running based. In the past these have included meals out, laser-quest nights and the now traditional pub runs, where groups of similarly paced runners tackle a 7-8 mile run to a local pub!

Your questions answered!

Where can I find you?

From October through to March we meet at Heanor Leisure Centre and from April through to September we meet at Shipley Park in the Visitors Centre Car Park

What training do you do?

Training sessions vary week by week. On the Tuesday and Thursday Club nights this can be anything from a Speed/Hill/Fartlek/Parlauf session to a steady run of around 5-6 miles at a variety of paces to suit all abilities. At weekends there is a regular group for the traditional long Sunday morning run. This year, these more formally planned as club members prepare for both spring Marathons and Half Marathons

Can I turn up or do I have to join first?

You would me more than welcome to come along and run with us and all abilities are welcomed. And whilst there is no pressure on you to join, you’ll find you will get far more from the experience if you do (as well as discount at local running shops, subsidised kit and cheaper entry to races!).

I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?

We have a number of runners competing in this years London Marathon, as well as more doing a spring half. You would be more than welcome to join in with these runners as they often run together at weekends. More information is available on Club nights.
