Headington Road Runners

Oxford
Oxfordshire

Headington Road Runners is Oxfordshire's largest adult road running club and is based in Oxford. Unlike many running clubs we do not have a children's or track section and concentrate solely on road running and, in the winter, Cross Country. We pride ourselves on being friendly and inclusive and treating all of our members with the same care and attention regardless of age, gender and pace. Thursday evening is the focus of our week where typically 70 of our 300 members gather to run together in small groups of similar abilities. We work hard on keeping our groups together during the runs so that no-one gets left behind or feels left out. Having a group shepherd gives new members a point of contact for advice on accessing the resources of the club.

Your questions answered!

Where can I find you?

Start by coming along to our Thursday evening session at "OXSRAD", Court Place Farm, Marston, Oxford. The session will start at 19:00 and will cater for all speeds and abilities.

What training do you do?

Our main organised club session is on Thursday evening but in addition we have organised track/speed sessions on Tuesday evenings, Cross Country training on Saturday mornings and endurance runs on Sunday mornings. You can pick any or all of these sessions as you wish. You can get advice from the club's coaches as to which sessions would be appropriate to your needs.

Can I turn up or do I have to join first?

Yes, you are welcome to turn up and see if you like us - most people do! Some people just came to train for the Virgin London Marathon and are still here ten years later. If you are a complete beginner then read our "Beginner's Guide" in the "Training" section of our web site and follow the 3 stage program to prepare you for running with the club.

I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?

That's the point of joining a club. We always have lots of people who enter the Virgin London Marathon, both beginners and experienced runners. You are much more likely to find someone of similar standard to train with if you are part of a club.
