H.R.R. was started 24 years ago by a small group of around 12 sporting enthusiasts looking to train together for the now well established Fleet Half Marathon. In those days it was called the Fleet Run for fun club. This being rather a mouth full the club changed its name to the current name of Hart Road Runners.
Membership is now over 130 active runners with a split of 60% men and 40% women covering all age groups from 18 to 70 and all capabilities from beginners to very experienced runners. The success of the club is due in the main to its very friendly approach to all runners and the social events we run every year. These include picnic runs, dances, overseas running events and of course our coach trip which we run every year to the London Marathon for our competitors and their supporters.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
Our main club night is on a Thursday night where we meet at the Hart Leisure Centre, Hitches Lane, Fleet at 7.00pm. Eevery 3rd Thursday we run a club handicap race. There are also training sessions run every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm and a track session every alternate Monday night at the Military Athletics Stadium in Aldershot. All these sessions are coached and suitable for all standards. Although we prefer people who have done some running we can cater for absolute beginners on a Saturday meeting at the Marley Mow Car Park at 9.00am.
What training do you do?
We tend to have between 2 and 3 main club training sessions a week (see above) but, you do not have to commit to all of them. We change training sessions depending on the time of year/season but we generally have 3 club sessions a week:
Monday: (Every Alternate) Coached Track Session
Tuesday: Coached training session,
Thursday: We do a road session up to 10 miles, In the Summer we do off road runs consisting of Canal and X country runs.
Sunday: Many meet up and go for a Long run.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Please feel free to come and run with us, member or not. We welcome runners of all ages, abilities and there is no pressure to join. However you may only enter our monthly handicap if you are a member and you will benefit in many ways by becoming a member and it is much cheaper than joining a gym! See our website for more information
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
We always have at least 20 in the London Marathon whose pace varies from 2h50m to over 5 hours. Our members are a friendly bunch and we will introduce you to people of similar ability and training for the Virgin London Marathon. Many members decide to meet up and train with each other outside club nights.
