For over 25 years Griffithstown Harriers have met regularly 2 or 3 times a week. Our members pride themselves on their enthusiasm for running and the support we give to anyone who wishes to join us. Everyone is encouraged to join in on club nights, even those who have never run before. The club caters for all levels of ability, and covers all disciplines except track running. We regularly participate in the local league races and also enter teams in all manner of events, on and off road. Griffithstown Harriers promote the social aspect of running with a group and offer friendship, companionship and encouragement to everyone who comes along.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
We meet in the entrance of the Glan Yr Afon Leisure Club just off Edlogan Way in Croesyceiliog. Cwmbran. NP44 2JJ. The club is situated alongside the river Afon Llwyd, has ample parking as well as riverside walks and fields nearby. Cwmbran town centre is a stones-throw away, as is the train station.
What training do you do?
Most Tuesday’s training consists of speed work, or hill work, or a mixture of both. Speed work may be fartlek or reps. On Thursdays we plan a longer route, usually between 6 – 14 miles, with ample cut-off points from 4 miles on. Griffithstown Harriers always run in pairs or small groups. Members regularly re-group on long runs to encourage slower runners and ensure no-one is ever left alone.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
Please just turn up – it’s always try before you buy. Although it’s wise to ring or email first to check that we are not away on a race somewhere.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
We regularly have members participating in the Marathon – they meet on Sundays for longer runs, and we will often run “relays” to help with their training. (taking it in turns to cover the miles)
