Dulwich Runners

Dulwich, South London
London

Dulwich Runners is a friendly running club catering for runners of all abilities. We have a membership of about 250 runners, and nearly half of them are women. We race mainly on the roads but also compete in the Surrey men's and women's cross country leagues. We are often among the prize winners, but also have many runners who do not race. We have a weekly newsletter (available on the website) which details forthcoming events (social and running), results and news from members. We have regular social events: picnics after races, summer and winter parties, weekends away to foreign races.

Your questions answered!

Where can I find you?

We meet on Wednesday nights at the Edward Alleyn Club at the rear of 83 - 85 Burbage Road, London SE24 9HD. Each week there is a range of runs from 5 to 10 miles, and people run in groups with others of similar speed. We have a rota of members to accompany new runners, or we will pair experienced runners up with a suitable group. In the winter we run on local roads, but in the summer we include parks, woods and trails. There are showers at the club and afterwards there is a bar and cooked food. We ask members to pay £1 each week to cover the cost of maps and clubhouse hire.

What training do you do?

Besides our regular Wednesday night runs there are track sessions. In the winter on Tuesday nights a group trains with a club coach at Ladywell track (Catford London SE6). In the summer track training takes place on Tuesday and Friday nights at the Dulwich College track (London SE21). Coaches will also give advice and training schedules.

Can I turn up or do I have to join first?

You can turn up and run with us for a few weeks before joining. The membership fee is £15.

I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?

It is best to come to the club on a Wednesday night to meet other runners of your speed. Then you will be able to run with them on Wednesdays and also Sunday mornings. We usually have between 20 and 30 runners in the Virgin London marathon and during the marathon build up, they meet on Sunday mornings in Dulwich Park for long runs. We always have at least 2 members who act as marathon pacers for Runner's World magazine so we have lots of experience at pace judgement! Throughout the year we take place in road races and before the Virgin London Marathon target a half marathon as part of the preparation. Of course we would like you to stay and run with us after the marathon as well!
