We are a friendly, lively and supportive club that cater for juniors and seniors living in Biggleswade, Sandy, Potton and surrounding villages. We participate in running events (road races, cross country) and athletics (track and field) throughout the year as well as organising the popular Sandy 10 Mile road race.
As well as the regular training sessions and group runs, we also have a lively social scene, including our Annual Club Dinner, social outings, weekends away, and an annual overseas tour. We were founded in the early 1950s, when we were based in Biggleswade, but we moved to Sandy in 2004 where our new all weather track has been built. We now have over 150 members of all ages from 8 to 60 plus. The majority of our senior members are road and cross country runners, and many have run the Virgin London Marathon.
So whether you are a jogger looking for a running partner or an experienced runner looking for competition, you are most welcome to join us! We offer friendly and supportive training advice to runners of all standards.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
Our club is based at the Sandy Sports Centre in Engayne Avenue, Sandy, which is next to Sandy Upper School.
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00pm for club training sessions to suit all abilities. These are normally held on local roads or tracks, but we also have the option to train on our 400 metre, 6 lane, all-weather athletic track. For details of how to find us, look on our website or send us an email
What training do you do?
We have a program of training sessions to suit all standards of runner, and we have a number of qualified coaches who can help you with your specific requirements. Our club night training sessions consist of runs of between 3 and 7 miles, speed sessions on quiet roads or on the track, and hill sessions to build up strength. Many club members also organise longer weekend runs when building up for a long race or the marathon. The training program for the months ahead can be found on our Web site.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
You are most welcome to come along to our club training nights for 4 or 5 weeks to see if you like what we do. If you wish to continue, then we ask you to join our club. Annual club fees can be found on our web site. As a member you will receive a monthly newsletter, be able to join the Cross Country leagues and take part in our club championship races.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
Each year we have many runners who run the Virgin London Marathon, and so you are welcome to train with them to help you achieve your goal. They will offer support and advice, and someone to train with.
