Barnes Runners is a friendly running club, founded in 2005. There are currently around 65 members ranging in ability from triathletes and marathon runners to social runners and all abilities between. Fast or slow; old or young we welcome anyone who wants to join us for our twice weekly runs on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings along the river towpath around Barnes, Putney, Hammersmith, Kew and Richmond, with one meet per month in Richmond Park. We enjoy several organized social events throughout the year and members take part in running events throughout England and beyond. Sunday runs usually end at a local café to replenish energy levels.
Your questions answered!
Where can I find you?
We meet at Barnes Rugby Club, Queen Elizabeth Walk, Barnes , SW13 9SA (next to the Wetland Centre) on Tuesday evenings at 7pm for a 7.15pm departure and on Sunday mornings at 9.45am for a 10am departure. On the first Sunday of each month we run in Richmond Park and meet at Roehampton Gate at 9.45am for a 10am start.
What training do you do?
On Tuesdays we go for a 4 – 6 mile road run, or towpath run if light enough, and on Sundays a longer run, with members adjusting their distance according to ability. Groups of members periodically incorporate interval training into the runs.
We are currently investigating structured training sessions on a monthly basis.
Can I turn up or do I have to join first?
We welcome anyone who wants to run with us for a few runs before asking them to consider joining. There are membership benefits of reduced cost for running clothes at several locations and subsidised race fees.
I am only looking to train for the Virgin London Marathon, how will I find others to train with?
There are 2 members running in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon and they train with members of the club who are taking part in other marathons and triathlons. They usually meet for a longer run than average mortals undertake on a Sunday morning and other times during the week.
