John Spurling announced as new Chairman of the London Marathon Ltd

John Spurling OBE, has been announced as the new Chairman of the London Marathon Ltd, the organisers of the Virgin London Marathon.
This follows the retirement of James Clarke, OBE, BEM from this post. ‘Jim’ former London Marathon Chairman from 1995 to 2009 said, ‘It has been a real pleasure and an honour to see the marathon develop during my time as Chairman. The marathon team do a great job and have truly made London the best in the World’.
Jim joined the Board of the London Marathon Ltd in 1991 and has been a Governor/Trustee of the London Marathon Charitable Trust since 1987. Jim will remain as a Trustee of the London Marathon Charitable Trust.
John, a retired advertising executive, is no stranger to the London Marathon, a Director of the London Marathon Ltd for nine years, and following his participation in the 1999 Flora London Marathon became a Guinness World Record Holder, raising a record £1,170,000 million for charity fundraising for two charities; The Lord’s Taverners and The Animal Health Trust.
John said, ‘I am delighted to be joining the London Marathon as the new Chairman at this exciting time as the event moves to another chapter with our new title sponsor Virgin. I hope to continue the great work of the former Chairman in changing and advancing the World Record charity fundraising part of the event’.
