David Weir
David Weir, double Paralympic Champion from Beijing has an outstanding record on the track and on the road. He won gold in the 800m and 1500m at the Beijing Paralympic Games, plus silver and bronze. In 2006 he broke two world records on the track and won three World titles in Assen at the World Championships. Following his first ever victory at the New York Marathon in November 2010, David won three gold medals at the 2011 World Championships in New Zealand. He won a record fifth title at the London Marathon in April 2011, having built a long association with the London Marathon since making his debut in the Mini Marathon at the age of eight years old. David represented his Borough of Sutton at the London Youth Games after he first took up wheelchair racing at Primary School. He went on to be selected for the Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1996 at the age of 17.
Louise Damen
Louise Damen established herself as one of Britain's top marathon runners after making her debut in the 2011 London Marathon. In her first attempt at the distance she ran an Olympic qualifying time of 2:30:00, the fourth fastest debut by a British woman ever.
Louise started running when she was 14 and experienced much success as a junior athlete. She won four English Schools titles on the track as a schoolgirl before making her debut for the Great Britain junior team at the age of 17. After studying English and Sports Science at Loughborough University, Louise went on to juggle her athletic career with teaching A Level PE at Peter Symonds College. As a senior athlete she has represented Great Britain at numerous European and World Cross Country Championships and is the current English National Cross Country Champion.
Scott Overall
In the 2011 BMW Berlin Marathon Scott Overall finished 5th in a time of 2:10:55; over a minute faster than the Olympic qualifying time. This was Scott's first ever marathon, having previously been focussed on track running. Just like his good friend Mo Farah, Scott was a keen 5000m runner, representing GB at U23 level and running in the European and World Indoor Championships in 2007 and 2010. After becoming frustrated with track running he decided to try his hand at longer distances, and following a successful half marathon time of 63:20 set his sights on competing in the full race. Scott is now focussed on marathon training for the Olympics, and splits his time between the UK and the USA where his coach Robert Chapman is based.
